Mission & Purpose
“There is no such thing as presentation talent, it is called Presentation Skills”
David JP Phillips, Entrepreneur
Conducting excellent research is the most important but not the only building block necessary for a successful career in research or academia. Researchers also have to be able to effectively present and communicate their ideas and results in an understandable way. The KIT PhD Symposium was created to offer young researchers a platform for practicing and improving their presentation and communication skills in English in front of a larger audience.
Symposium held in English – Internationals welcome!
English is the language of science. In order to prepare young scientists for their work in an international research environment, the symposium will be held entirely in English.
Interdisciplinary symposium – no results required for participation!
The symposium covers a wide range of topics related to the KIT centers and competence areas and reflects the research spectrum of KIT. These topics include:
- Matter and Materials
- Earth and Environment
- Applied Life Sciences
- Systems and Processes
- Information, Communication and Organization
- Technology, Culture and Society
It is not necessary to have results for a presentation. For ensuring the interdisciplinary character of the symposium, presenters are encouraged to keep their contributions as general and understandable as possible. The emphasis should be put on the presentation and not on the scientific content.
Possibility to videotape your presentation
We offer you the unique possibility to videotape your presentation and to give you the tape after the symposium. Please contact the organizing committee for more information.
Professional experts will give valuable feedback
A variety of internal and external experts will give individual feedback about each presentation. In addition to experts of various scientific backgrounds, professional presentation trainers and communication specialists will be invited. The presenter will receive written feedback on content, coherence and clarity of the presentation/poster, the use of visual aids/display, and on overall impression.
Opportunity for networking
The symposium represents an excellent opportunity for networking and making new friends. Considerable time slots of the program are dedicated for social events.
