Research skills form an important field of development for your current tasks during the doctoral and postdoc phase and for a career in science. But some topics are also central for career paths in industry and for setting up your own business.

Good communication skills are fundamental to all professions. Our offering includes both general further education on this topic as well as courses specific to academia or to industriy.

The thematic area of Management & Leadership covers aspects ranging from personal development and the leadership of others to project and operational management. Our offering includes relevant courses for all levels of experience and various application and career contexts. However, due to the overarching importance of the topics, the respective content is usually also applicable across contexts (e.g. industry-specific offerings to the scientific context).

KHYS language courses are tailored to the needs of young researchers and are run in cooperation with KIT-Sprachenzentrum (▶ SPZ) and Studienkolleg at KIT (▶ STK). Further courses offered by the KIT-Sprachenzentrum can be found ▶ here.

Examining your career options, wishes and goals at an early stage allows you to work towards the next steps in a targeted manner. Ideally, reflection and engagement with career options should be an integral part of your doctoral or postdoctoral phase from the very beginning. Our training opportunities offer support in general career orientation and planning as well as with regard to a specific career development and in the application phase.

Academic teaching competences are an important building block for career paths in science. Information, support and further training courses on teaching competences - for example the ▶ Certificate for Teaching and Learning at University Level - are offered by Human Resources Development and Vocational Training (▶ PEBA). Additional workshops about digital teaching are organized by the Center for Technology-Enhanced Learning (▶ ZML).
