KHYS Postdoc Days 2022
We are happy to announce the third ▶ KHYS Postdoc Days, which will take place in November 2022.
The ▶ KHYS Postdoc Office has organised six events in cooperation with other service units and partners at KIT in order to support you in every stage of your postdoc phase with vital information and advice. To give you detailed practical insights, several guests, speakers and experts (early career researchers at KIT, scientific managers and many more) have been invited to share their experiences with you and answer your questions.
The kick-off event and panel discussion ▶ How to Become a Junior Professor or Tenure Track Professor will bring junior professors, tenure track professors and representatives of supporting service units at KIT together in order to answer all of your questions considering junior and tenure track professorship in Germany. Furthermore, a keynote speech of the chairman of the board of the national association Deutsche Gesellschaft Juniorprofessur and a representative of the division Appointment Procedures of KIT will provide crucial information regarding the preconditions, expectations and framework conditions of junior and tenure track professorships. In the subsequent get-together with beverages and snacks, there will be more possibilities to network.
This event will take place in presence, on Monday, November 14, 4:15 – 7:30 p.m.
In order to give your arguments the persuasive edge, Dr. Stefan Götze of the Research Office (FOR) will give you an introduction to ▶ Storytelling-Principles for Scientists (registration closed, waiting list only). This workshop will introduce techniques for crafting messages that attract attention – so-called storytelling-principles – and participants will apply them to their own work. Come and learn how to compose, for example, grant proposals and job-talk presentations in a new and compelling way!
The workshop takes place in presence, on Tuesday, November 15, 2:00 – 5:00 p.m.
On Wednesday, November 16, 10:00 a.m. – 12 noon, the event ▶ Application for a Junior Professorship in Germany (registration closed, waiting list only) will give an overview of the German academic system and the selection process for a Junior Professorship in Germany. It will cover some legal requirements and principles as well. Also, the talk will address the questions how to search for relevant job advertisements and how to prepare the written application documents for a Junior Professorship in Germany.
Please note: This event will take place online on zoom.
On Thursday, November 17, 11:00 a.m. – 12 noon, the KIT Career Service will give you another chance to learn about ▶ Applications – Tips and Tricks (Focus: Industry) (registration closed, waiting list only). Our expert Sabine Reiser will give you an overview of what’s important when you are applying for jobs inside and outside of academia.
Please note: This event will take place online on zoom.
Also on Thursday, November 17, 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m., we will kick off our event series ▶ Career Talk for postdocs who are looking for information regarding attractive career options outside academia with our first guest BOSCH. At this event, a representative of the Human Resources Department of BOSCH as well as a postdoc who has left academia to pursue a career there will share practical tips, insights and experiences on how to successfully transition to BOSCH. They will also answer your questions in a Q&A session. During the last bit of the event, you will get the possibility to talk, network and exchange experiences over coffee and cake.
The event will take place in presence.
And finally, due to last year’s high demand, the ▶ Career Planning Impulse sessions are back! This time, you can book a 30-minute session which takes place online or in presence. Career counsellors will give you advice on the career planning topic of your choice. You can use this one-to-one session e.g. to get a personal feedback on your application documents (CV, cover letter etc.), to develop ideas on where to look for suitable job offers outside academia, or you can get first advice on how to plan your future career paths in a more strategic manner.
The sessions will take place on Friday, November 18, 9:30 a.m. – 3:45 p.m.
