KIT PhD Days 2018

INFORMATION — ORIENTATION — NETWORKING

The fourth KIT PhD days took place from September 24 to 27, 2018. Under the theme INFORMATION — ORIENTATION — NETWORKING, a range of presentations and workshops were offered on various topics. Around 200 doctoral researchers at KIT, as well as  prospective PhD candidates, took the opportunity to gain an overview of the many aspects of pursuing a doctorate and to deepen their knowledge in areas such as funding, publishing, and career management.

The event opened with a panel discussion on "Good Research Practice". Experts in the field shared insights into their work, highlighted key issues such as the fundamental principles of research, quality assurance, and authorship, and answered questions from the audience. Following the panel, participants gathered for a get-together, where they had the chance to meet one another and exchange experiences in more informal discussions.

At the Welcome Event, participants learned how to use the PhD phase for personal and professional development. This event was aimed at both German and international doctoral researchers. In addition to a general presentation on services available to doctoral researchers at KIT, two former doctoral researchers shared their experiences, providing a personal prespective on life as a doctoral candidate at KIT.  The event also included a networking session, giving attendees an opportunity to expand their professional connections and meet fellow researchers.

In the workshop titled “Promotion – ja oder nein?” (Doing a PhD – yes or no?), prospective PhD candidates were able to assess whether a PhD was right for them and learn about the specific requirements and conditions of the doctorate at KIT.

Due to the positive feedback, plans for the next KIT PhD days are already underway.
