Interdisciplinary Thinking. Tactics and Tools for Synthesizing Knowledge across Disciplinary Boundaries (five-day) [ON-SITE WORKSHOP]
The event will be held in English and run for five days, on February 26, 2024, and March 4, 11, 18 and 25, 2024.
Interdisciplinary collaborations are in high demand today. Both in academia and industry, knowledge is increasingly generated jointly by experts with diverse backgrounds. Although such cooperations offer great potential for innovation, they also, at the same time, can poses significant challenges to researchers: unfamiliarity with other disciplines, incongruent disciplinary perspectives and/or idiosyncratic, technical languages can impede a productive exchange of ideas in such groups.
This workshop serves as a primer to interdisciplinary thinking and collaboration. Through exploring the reasons and options for cross-disciplinary work, you can see the benefits and opportunities for seeking such collaborations. By looking at the nature of scientific knowledge and the complexities that arise when different knowledge domains intersect, you gain an understanding of the challenges involved. By introducing tactics and tools for collaborative ideation, accessible communication and knowledge integration, you gain competencies for realising the potential synergies when experts from different domains interact.
This workshop is appropriate for both researchers who currently are involved in cross-disciplinary projects and scientists who want to generally enhance their ability to work effectively in epistemically diverse teams.
Please note: This workshop will be implemented partially on-site and online. The respective format for each session will be announced prior the beginning of the course.
